| Privacy-preserving and security challenges for real-time communication in IoT devices are particularly complex due to constraints in resources, heterogeneous architecture, and the critical nature of some applications (e.g., healthcare, industrial automation, etc.). The data confidentiality in the IoT devices is most important aspect. The ensuring encryption for real-time messages when devices have limited capabilities in power, memory and battery life. The metadata exposure may happen even if the it is encrypted payloads and communication patterns can reveal sensitive context. In the IoT ecosystem, the devices often operate autonomously, collecting and transmitting data without user visibility. The security key management at large scale required for connected devices challenge for real-time key exchange, storage is a major challenge. The AI / ML on the edge poses the challenge for devices making real-time decisions using ML models can leak model data or infer personal information. |
